#13 – A Program That Helps to Fight Poverty, Strengthen Families and Build Communities Through Programs and Services that Ensure Human Dignity and Enhancing the Quality of Life For All Persons.
DeSoto County is home to a large number of migrant families who wish to achieve citizenship or reunite with other family members. The program provides programs such as Prevention and Support Services, Citizenship and Family Reunification, After School Program and Farm Worker Housing. For those who are legal permanent residents, renewal of residence and employment documents are critical to their ability to remain productive members of the community. Catholic Charities helps those facing hardships with assistance with many things such as payments for rent, mortgage, utilities, as well as help with other basic needs such as food, transportation and toiletry items.
During the month of June, Norton Hammersley, through Sam and Jane Norton, teamed up with Catholic Charities of DeSoto County to collect much needed toiletry items such as deodorant, toilet paper, soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste to assist these individuals and families.
